Darkstalkers 3 was easily a highlight of this 21+ hour stream we did, full of literally over a dozen fighting games we played through on two consoles. We played the original release earlier in the project, and it’s probably more fun than the first game was, and I thought the first was a top tier brawler.
I tried out a few different fighters that I normally don’t use when playing a Darkstalkers game, and it was a blast. I always disliked how they nerfed Dimitri’s fireball trap play with this game, but thanks to that, we did play with characters I haven’t touched in years, like Donnovan and Sasquatch. I also forgot how gorgeous these backgrounds were.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – it’s a shame that Capcom knows nothing but Street Fighter this and Street Fighter that. They should give the franchise a break and bring Darkstalkers back to life, regardless of the tepid reception it got on the remaster released years ago. Darkstalkers 3 is a masterclass fighting game, and unfortunately, I believe it’s not the cheapest either. If you can get your hands on a Darkstalkers game in any form, do it, especially the final release. It’s some of the genres best ever.
